Depression & Getting Through the Holidays.

Depression & Getting Through the Holidays. The Holidays can be particularly difficult for older adults at the best of time!

About this Event

Often times as we age, holidays no longer seem very jolly, and we just don't feel like celebrating much anymore. What used to be a joyous occasion can change with families growing up or moving away.

You may already feel alone and feeling unneeded as we are no longer responsible for making the "magical" Christmas. You may already feel lonely at the best of times, let alone when life gets in the way with a pandemic that requires us to isolate and distance ourselves from loved ones and celebrations of any kind.

The expectation that this is the "happiest time of the year" alone can cause people of all ages to become sad or depressed, leaving Caregivers and older adults especially susceptible to the holiday blues.

While the holidays may not be the same as they were in the past, there can still be plenty of reasons to celebrate. It is important to remember that you are not alone and that, while cherishing old memories, it is okay to find new ways to enjoy the holidays .

Join us as Padmaja Genesh, Alzheimer Society of Calgary's Learning Specialist guides us through identifying what triggers sadness and depression and ways that you can help to prevent and minimize it to enjoy the Holidays.
